My life as a student is pretty straight forward and functions as if any other students day, classes, and relationships with teachers go, but in digital design and game art, that all changes. Now, I know what you are thinking, it can’t be that crazy in this kid’s class or at his school and to be honest you are right. I am going to simply share what my life is like aa a student at DSA and in specific, Mr. Bourgeois’s class.
To start off, every day when my classmates and I walk in the door we are greeted by Mr. B and then take or seats. We have however much time before the bell rings to get signed into our computer and work if we would like. When starting new units, once the bell has rung, he will often give us instructions for what we will be diving into, both verbal as well as written instructions. Following that, we will either ask questions as well as begin working. Most periods we are allowed to do whatever we please as long as we are on task and it is class appropriate. With this time in class to work, most people choose to do assignments that require special software to do, such as platforms like Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and 3ds max. This is because most people don’t own these platforms on their computers at home so they spend class time using them. I enjoy this class for the most [art due to how the class functions, the environment, and the way students interact with each other during class time. The only downside about this class is that there are not a lot of breaks for working. The workload is heavy and most assignments require software that is not easily obtainable outside of school. When I say that I mean, most people do not want to pay for these platforms simply for the class. On the other hand, a way of dealing with this is that Mr. Bourgeois offers tutoring every day of the week so that if you don’t finish an assignment, you can get it done in school, outside of class. Overall I have enjoyed this class so far this year and look forward to my future enrolled in it.
